Swap over of the Atlantic 85

There was a hive of activity at the St Catherine’s Lifeboat Station this evening as the crew completed the swap over of the Atlantic 85, the Eric W Wilson, which has been in Jersey since June 2010, with an Atlantic 85 from the RNLI relief fleet, the Malcolm & Mona Bennett-Williams.

The Eric W Wilson is going on a trip for 3-4 months to the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat Centre in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight for its second refit.

Inshore lifeboats typically go for a refit every 4-6 years, depending on use and condition. During the refit, the team at the Inshore Lifeboat Centre will completely strip the boat and we are hoping to bring you some progress photos of the refit over the next few months.

These scheduled refits are done to ensure the boat is well prepared for any condition and can continue to save lives at sea around the coast of Jersey.
