RNLI Long Service Awards

26/10/2020

Twenty seven RNLI Jersey volunteers have been recognised by the RNLI for their long service to the charity which saves lives at sea.

The RNLI recognises long service from volunteers by awarding medals or badges (at the volunteer’s option) for those who have served the charity for 20 years, and any 10 year increments thereafterTwenty seven local volunteers from both the Lifeboat Guild, the fundraising arm of RNLI Jersey, and the Operations team have recently been recognised for their long service to the charity.

Nigel Sweeny, Lifeboat Operations Manager for RNLI Jersey, himself recognised for his 40 years’ service, commented:

“It is a tremendous privilege to serve the RNLI with this team. That so many of our volunteers have dedicated so many years to serving this charity is humbling but it shows the passion that we all have for the RNLI.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who support our volunteers. For every RNLI Jersey volunteer, there is a network of people, from family and friends to employers, who allow our team to invest the time required to make RNLI Jersey work. Their support allows the crews to go to sea, and the fundraisers to organise events, and their understanding and patience with the commitment involved is right at the heart of RNLI Jersey.”
