RNLI 200 Art Auction

28/05/2024

RNLI Jersey is delighted to announce the launch of their online art auction, a creative fundraising initiative to celebrate 200 years of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

The auction features 10 pieces generously created and donated by local artists, all under the themes of the RNLI and the sea. The artists - some of which are very well-known, others of which are emerging talents - have each conceived an original piece of work which they have donated to RNLI Jersey to help celebrate 200 years of the RNLI. The online auction will run until midnight on Saturday 15 June, which is also the night of the RNLI 200 Gala Ball.

All pieces of art are currently on display in the empty shop opposite Howards Opticians in Queen Street.

The successful bidders will not only acquire spectacular pieces of artwork, but they will be contributing to the RNLI’s aim of saving lives at sea, in helping to fund world class training and the highest specification safety equipment for current and future generations of volunteer crew.

How to take part:

1. Visit the EasyLiveAuction online auction site here.

2. Create an account and register your bid on the piece of art you love the most.

3. The highest bidder for each piece will be contacted the week commencing 17 June.

Kirsten Morel, Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, commented:

This celebration of the RNLI’s bicentenary featuring the work of local artists is a great way of using this space to bring life to otherwise empty shop fronts. Congratulations to everyone who’s been involved in bringing this together, and to the landlords at Columbia Group who recognised the importance of ‘meanwhile use’ for the site. The use of vacant shops and windows to enhance the vibrancy of our high street is to be celebrated.”

Mike Edward, the RNLI Crew member who has organised the art auction said:

This exhibit and auction is the culmination of months of behind-the-scenes discussions with the landlords, the Town Centre Manager and, of course, the artists. We are immensely honoured that they have given up their valuable time and demonstrated their amazing talent to support the RNLI in this historic year.Thank you on behalf of RNLI Jersey to everyone who has helped bring this to fruition. We hope that islanders will be inspired by these unique and beautiful pieces of art. Your favourite one could be hanging on your wall in just a few weeks!”
