St Helier paged to a yacht with a fuel leak in Portelet Bay

At 11.40am today, the St Helier Crew were paged to a yacht with a fuel leak in Portelet Bay with 6 people onboard (including 1 child). The St Helier all weather lifeboat, the George Suillivan, launched and made her way to the area of the casualty vessel.

Contact was made with the casualty who advised they had just 3m of water below their keel and with a ebbing tide. The casualty crew were able to start their engines and so they were requested to head south into more open water. Once on scene it was established that the safest course of action was to tow the vessel back to St Helier after it was confirmed that the fuel leak did not make it dangerous to bring the vessel into the harbour. As the casualty crew were safe and well, and the conditions benign, they stayed onboard their yacht. A tow was established and the vessel was taken back to St Helier.
