St Helier lifeboats launched to assist surfers [stood down]

Both the all-weather lifeboat and inshore lifeboat were launched this morning from our St Helier station. The lifeboats were launched to assist with surfers in trouble at St Ouens. They were stood down once Jersey Coastguard, paramedics & JF&RS were on scene.

If you find yourself caught in a rip:
  • Don’t try to swim against it or you’ll get exhausted.
  • If you can stand, wade don’t swim.
  • If you can, swim parallel to the shore until free of the rip and then head for shore.
  • Always raise your hand and shout for help.
If you see someone in difficulty, never attempt a rescue. Call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
