UPDATE: Lifeguard Beach Patrols

RNLI lifeguards will begin their summer safety patrols on St Ouen’s from Saturday 23rd May between 10am and 6pm.  We are currently looking at a combination of soaring temperatures, large swells and spring tides creating challenging conditions.  There are currently no lifeguard patrols on any other beaches in Jersey and we encourage people to take care to understand the risks at the coast and the necessary steps to keep themselves safe.

Anyone planning a visit to the coast, please remember and follow safety advice:

  • Stay together (with a member of your household) and do not surf alone
  • Beginner surfers – please do not surf during this period
  • Be aware of rip currents (typically identifiable as areas where the waves are not breaking or channels of churning, choppy water on the sea’s surface)
  • Have a plan - check the weather forecast, tide times and read local hazard signage
  • Don’t allow your family to swim alone
  • Don’t use inflatables
  • If you fall into the water unexpectedly, FLOAT TO LIVE. Fight your instinct to thrash around, lean back, extend your arms and legs, and Float
