Ben Phelps

I joined the RNLI because I love the sea but I see how powerful it can be and how much trouble people can get into. I really wanted to be part of a community of volunteers who help others, but I also wanted to learn some new skills and gain some new friends along the way. I’ve been involved with several shouts during my time at St Catherine’s lifeboat station. There are lots of good memories and all were really exciting and some involving helicopters! But the one that sticks with me most was when we rescued a local lad from a precarious position on the cliffs after falling while fishing. What I really liked most was working together as a team with my fellow crew members but also working with other search and rescue professionals such as the coastguard and the Fire Service - the coordination worked really well and we returned the lad to safety.
